Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has emerged as a threat to public health and animal health globally. Its development and spread in the human health, animal health and environmental sectors are well recognized worldwide. To mitigate the threat posed by AMR, a “One Health” approach encompassing these three sectors is regarded as necessary. Many governments around the world have implemented One Health AMR action plans. In order to control AMR effectively, cooperation and actions from all relevant stakeholders are crucial.
In the animal health sector, veterinarians play an indispensable role in the fight against AMR. When managing diseases in animals, antimicrobials are commonly used. While a multitude of complex factors contribute to the emergence of AMR, antimicrobial use (AMU), especially inappropriate use, has been recognized as an important driver. Therefore, veterinarians have the responsibility to ensure that AMU in animals is prudent and appropriate.
In face of an ever-changing landscape in the fields of public health, infectious diseases, pharmaceutical and laboratory capacities, prudent and appropriate AMU can be a simple yet complicated mandate in private companion animal practice. To help veterinarians best position themselves in daily case management and advocate prudent and appropriate AMU, this webinar will provide information on AMU and AMR in companion animal general practice and approaches to managing cases of infectious diseases.
This webinar will bring together veterinary specialists to present and discuss relevant practical and frontier prudent AMU approaches.
Let’s put prudent and appropriate AMU into practice and fight against AMR.
This webinar is free of charge. 2.25 credit points of Continuing Professional Development will be granted by the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Hong Kong to eligible registered veterinarians in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
